So tumblr decided to update their terms and conditions. Right before I simply skimmed past the text and clicked the little box of me indicating how I read the thing, I noticed this. I wanted to find more so I kept reading… no luck… so I stopped sometime before I got to the end… and now I’ll never know if Tumblr left some secret at the end or not… oh well.

The young soldier

“The young soldier arched his lips closer to the ground as if he were to whisper something into the soil beneath him. His lips reached the dry land and you can hear a small kiss right before he lifted his head back up and turned with his gun facing forward towards the barren lands.

This was the soil that said would give him freedom in the future. This was the soil he was asked to protect with his life before he returns back home in a couple of hours. This was the soil he has slept on for the last several years in hopes of keeping his family alive. This was the soil that let him hear for the first time what the cry of a man in desperate plea for another chance in life was like. This was the soil he wishes to come back to one day as a free man with his family knowing there is nothing to fear.

The young soldier squinted his eyes as the sun continued to glisten in the skies above. He crawled a bit forward as he saw a whirring bullet skid past his hair and hit the soldier behind him. Blood began oozing out when the siren blasted through the fields indicating it was all over now. He should be jumping for job but how could he when his fellow solider, his best friend on the field, was dead right before he was granted his freedom?

The young soldier hobbled back home carrying his friend on his back. Towards the village he remembered growing up him. Towards the village where he heard his mother call his name last as he was tugged away by larger men. Towards the village where people he would recognize as his own people.

The young soldier approached his village and went straight home. He put his best friend near a wall and took a sit down himself. He was looking at the ruins of what he once remembered was home. The entire village was bombed and no living soul was wandering about anymore.

He began to dig. And dig. And dig. He gently placed his friend, his mother, his sister, and his grandparents into the hole he created and closed the hole back up again. He found some flowers blossoming a new near the corners of his house. He gently placed the flowers down on top of the soil where his close ones were beneath.

This was the soil that granted him freedom. This was the soil that took away his family. This was the soil that remained even after everyone was gone. This was the soil he pleaded towards for another chance. This was the soil he wept on in hopes of some change. This was the soil where he eventually gave up on.”
